Old Town 109057

Jon Bouton

Sucker for an Indian Girl
If someone has time, a copy of the build record for Old Town canoe # 109057 please. Fresh paint, headed for the assembly Thursday afternoon.
Thanks! Jon

Jon,

Old Town 109057 was a 16-foot CS (or common sense) grade HW model built in 1931 and shipped to Westchester County, New York. It had open spruce gunwales and oak decks, thwarts and seats. It had a keel. The original color was dark blue.

The scan of this record is attached below-- click on it to get a larger image. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you and anyone else reading this will join or renew membership in the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

See you at Assembly...

Norm

Thanks very much, Norm.
That's our canoe, now with one pine deck (from an earlier repair) and new spruce outwales and canvas painted malacite green from a 2001 repair done with lots of help from my dad, Ed, and brother, Tim; and a couple of fresh coats of paint and varnish.
As things played out, we left the (17MPG, no air conditioning) truck & canoe at home, favoring the Civic (comfy, cool 37MPG) (with Hornbeck Boat) for an extended weekend trip including the Assembly, friends in Watertown and Syracuse before heading home to the east coast of Vermont. We only spent a Thursday evening and Friday til 4 at Paul Smiths'. Spent the day making a paddle with Caleb Davis which left lots more to do at our next Assembly. Hope to met you then.
Thanks for all the time you volunteer helping people out with their questions. Much appreciated!

Be well,
-- Jon
