Old canoe with the serial number 0672

Curious about Wooden Canoes
I got this old canoe with the serial number 0672. It is stamped on one of the frames of the canoe. It’s all wood, very solid, and in great condition. I also have the cover as well. I need to dig it out from the room. I want to know what year it was built and if there are any for sale or repair out there. I will leave you with some of the images. A long time ago, I built it, and all the spaces are in place. Today, I’m planning to learn more about it. If you have any information, I would appreciate it. Thank you for this great place.

My guess is it was for sale in the '40s or '50s.

If the paddle is affiliated with the boat it is probably a Folbot Kayak. I have a Klepper so not too familiar with Folbot regarding manufacturing dates etc.

I am sure someone familiar with Folbot, to include if they made canoes, will chime in. Look forward to seeing a picture of it assembled.

It does look on the older side, and very cool. The material of the skin may help, assuming it is original.

Is the paddle the clue? A boathouse I once worked at had a boat gifted to it that looked like yours. It was a Folboat.
I assembled it and left it together.
It was not very popular. People preferred to use our canoes. Maybe now with the increased interest in kayaks/pickle barrels people might be more interested?

Yes, I found the paddles... nice and original. The serial number is canoe:0672. Wow....
It looks more like a Folbot Kayak to me.

My guess is that the owner who sold the house to me left it behind. He was in the military because he left several things from WWII. He was okay with leaving it, and they were happy for us to keep and enjoy it. So, I’m sure it’s original, and the number indicates how many have been built.

Cheap plastic kayaks have invaded the waterways. The rivers that i have fished for over 50 years without seeing another watercraft the entire year, now have kayaks every time I go. The bright side is that many more people are enjoying a resource, and might help to preserve it. As with any resource that gets more use. there will be more problems.

Wow, I found the final part—there’s no more... That’s it.
Original from FOLBOT....

This is very interesting. I had a Folbot in the mid 1960s and it no similarities, none, to the pictures you have shown. They must have completely redesigned their line of boats.

I think it’s from a 1946 to 1953 model called Super. The two-seater was renamed, with a vinyl deck, poly longers, wooden crossframes, wooden washboards, and aluminum fittings. In 1953, Folbot moved to Charleston, SC. In 1969, there was a model called Sporty Glider or Big Glider. By 1988, the design was more modern, and the model that year was called Pisces. The shape was different from the one in the images above.

Also, this image gives me the idea that it was between 1946-53...the same...

I've had a couple of Folbots, and own one now. They're good boats, solid and stable, not very fast.
That skin may have stiffened or shrunk a bit, sometimes letting them warm in the sun helps. Enjoy it.

Vik, my boat from the mid 60s had very different parts, but the instruction were almost identical! There was something about Folbot catalogs and instructions that really was different. Perhaps it was the way they used lots of small pix, cropped in all kinds of ways.

Looking at the details of the kayak and the manual, plus some information I found, I can say it was made before the '60s. In the '60s, the model changed completely.
