Curious about Wooden Canoes
Dear Chestnut Experts out there,
For a few weeks now, I've had my eye on a particular Chestnut...but I have questions about the model. It's not advertised as anything specific, but at first glance, seems to be a Fox or Playmate...however, I've been closely comparing photos of the Fox and Playmate to this one and it seems a bit different (unless it's an illusion from the photos given). The measurements shown are a little bit different than what the specs are on woodencanoemuseum.org. I can't find anything that it matches.
I'm assuming it measures 14' long (though the photo shows + 14 1/2' ), but the depth at the thwart is at least 13" (unless the measurements on a Chestnut are taken below the gunwale?)...also, the beam is a bit more than a Fox or Playmate at 32.5" (and if you see in the photo, the measurement is not even at the widest part of the hull).
Does anyone have any idea what this model could be?
Also, I have not seen a vertical painter loop on any Chestnut before, like shown on the stern deck. Was this part of the original design, or was this something added on later?
Many thanks!
Gregor
