Morris rib shape...

Looks like I gotta replace 2 ribs on my Morris 14067. I haven't removed one yet to measure... thought I'd ask first: Are Morris ribs shaped symmetrically?, or are they trimmed/tapered on just one side? I'm thinking of OldTowns. I believe it was Rolin who pointed out that OT shaped their ribs on just one side so that the centers of the rib tips are not in line with the center of the rib in the middle of the rib (hard thing to describe in words... - see pic below).

So did Morris do shaping like OldTown? If so, which way was the rib oriented on the canoe?

Just took a rib out and checked: trimmed on one side like OT.

And how was the trimmed side oriented with respect to the center of the canoe? Trimmed side facing center?

Yes, trimmed side facing center, unless a raked rib look is desired. Morris ribs have lots of taper .If fitted into pocketed ribs, they are almost half round. The length is extremely critical fi the canoe has pocketed ribs

The straight edge faces the deck. The trimmed edge faces the center of the canoe.
