Metal "Decals"

I have 1950 OTCA with a metal decal on the rear deck. The decks have not been switched. Previous work has been done on this canoe. Maybe a previous owner was a little confused on decals and their position. When were metal decals introduced?

Thanks for any help, R.C.

The metal Old Town name plates first appeared in 1979 as shown at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/covers/large-79.gif on the catalog cover. These often show up on earlier canoes after repairs. An Otca from 1950 would have left the factory with a decal on the bow deck like the one in the link and picture below. Let me know if this doesn't answer your question,

Benson
