Enthusiastic about Wooden Canoes
Hi, I just picked up three canoes in New Jersey. Got them home in good shape (beat the snowstorm/sleet/rain/freezing rain by inches). They are snug in the shop and I am beginning to evaluate the best of the 3 for restoration. If anyone can provide any information on these I would be grateful.

1. 12394-18. it is a 16' closed gunnel in fairly good shape. Looks like some rib repairs and planking, seats, decks, keel and stems. I think the seller said it was a Carlton but was sold as an Old Town. (Not sure how that works?)

2. 38307- is a 1916 Charles River Old Twon. It has been fiber glassed but I think with elbow grease and a lot of patience it will be a beauty.

3. 143346-18 (I think). That is about all I know about it. It has been broken in half (for now she is dubbed the PT-109) but looks to be repairable.

Thanks for any info you can offer.

Hello John, our Michigan Chapter was in Grayling at Gates Lodge this past fall paddling the beautiful AuSable River. We do this the last weekend of Sept each year. If you are interested in joining our group contact me at dmd421@comcast.net and I can send you one of our Newsletters. Also, I can give you the build record for #2 and #3. Recheck the serial number on #1.

Thank you for the information.

Congratulations, see http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?4842 for the information about the Old Town/Carleton with serial number 12394, http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?6297 has the details about 38307, and http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?2541 for 143346. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions or contact the Michigan chapter as Debbie suggested. Good luck with the restorations,

Benson

Thank you, Benson. I appreciate the info. I have begun working on the Carlton and will put out some posts as I work through this learning process. I will touch base with Debbie as well.
