Old Town serial # 120952 was issued to a CS (common sense) grade 18' Guide canoe with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, seats and thwarts, originally painted dark green, and shipped on 25 August 1937 to Westport, NY. Looks like someone intended to do some sailing as it was fitted with a mast seat and step. Also had outside stems and a floor rack.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Mrs. Willis Wood is my grandmother. The canoe is in the same family ownership - settled nicely on the Upper Ausable Lake in the Adirondacks, New York. It has been fiber-glassed. (I think my grandmother fiber-glassed all of her boats at the same time. She was a great sailor but was convinced fiber-glass was a good thing after a sailing mishap!)
The mast step must have been removed at that time. We have an old sail and a picture of my uncle sailing I canoe, so I am sure it is the same canoe.
