Kennebec Serial Identification

Hello
Benson has recently helped me find the serial # of my Kennebec canoe.
serial #238 16.
The canoe is 16 ft in length. It has rail caps along the decks and heart shaped decks.
Can you supply me with the build records for this canoe?

Kennebec assigned serial number 238 to: a Maine Coast rowboat in 1918, a Yankee Flier motor boat in 1928, and a Kiddie Craft boat in 1932. None of these look like your canoe. My guess is that you have a Skowhegan Canoe that was built by Walter Grant after he left Kennebec. The stem profile of a Skowhegan is distinctly different from a Kennebec as shown in the catalog image below. Scans showing eight Skowhegan catalogs are available from http://www.wcha.org/store/historic-wood-canoe-and-boat-company-catalog-collection if you want more details. There are no known serial number records available for Skowhegan so there isn't much more that we can tell you. Sorry,
