Welcome and congratulations, my guess is that you actually have the Kennebec canoe with serial number 22776 since they skipped the serial numbers from 30499 to 49999. The Kennebec canoe with this serial number is shown on pages 426 and 427 of volume five in the Kennebec ledgers. It was assigned to an 15.5 foot long White Water model with half ribs and a keel that was made on the Dan Neal form. It was planked by John Vigue on April 27th, 1940. L. Thibodeau applied the canvas covering and the first filler coat on May 4th, 1940. The original color was green. It shipped Elliott - Robertson Co. to location "40-176" on July 6th, 1940. This location is probably an order number but we don't currently have enough information to identify it. The scans of these build records are attached below. These original Kennebec records are reproduced through the courtesy of the Maine State Museum.

The microfilms and scans of these records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA). A description of the project to preserve other records like these is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

More information about this and other Kennebec models can be found in the Kennebec catalogs contained on the Historic Wood Canoe and Boat Company Catalog Collection available from https://www.woodencanoe.org/product-page/the-historic-wood-canoe-and-boat-company-catalog-collection in the WCHA store. See https://woodencanoemuseum.org/builder-history/kennebec-boat-canoe-co for more details about Kennebec.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson
