I have a Kennebec canoe with serial number 11071. Can you help me with any info on this Kennebec model such as the year of manufacture? Thanks

The Kennebec canoe with serial number 11071 is shown on pages 478 and 479 of volume two in the Kennebec ledgers. This was assigned to an 18 foot long Kennebec model, type A with "O.G." (Open Gunnel?) rails. It was planked by Lanteigne on March 24th, 1916. The canvas covering and the first filler coat were applied by Roy on the same day. The second filler coat was applied by Roy on April 21st, 1916. The rails were installed by Chapham on April 28th, 1916(?). The original paint color was "M. G." (Medium Green?) applied by Smith on May 19th, 1916(?). It was shipped to "J. W. Pa" (John Wannamaker's in Pennsylvania?) on February 24th, 1917.

The scans of this build record can be found by following the links at the attached thumbnail images below. These original Kennebec records are reproduced through the courtesy of the Maine State Museum.

The microfilms and scans of these records were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA). I hope that you will join or renew your membership or contribute to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

More information about this and other Kennebec models can be found in the Kennebec catalogs contained on the Historic Wood Canoe and Boat Company Catalog Collection available from http://store.wcha.org/The-Historic-...pany-Catalog-Collection-Version-2-CD-ROM.html in the WCHA store. It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
