Joe Seliga - A Truly Special Person

I'm very sad to let you know that Joe Seliga passed away early this morning at his home. It is so sad to see such a special person gone from our lives, but it is so fortunate that he was able to do what he loved so much for his entire life. I'll sure miss him.

My understanding is that there will not be a service at this time, but that there will be a memorial this summer in Ely.

Please keep Joe's family in your prayers.

Subject: Joe Seliga

This morning at around 2:00am Joe passed away, peacefully, in his sleep. His daughters, Nancy and Joanne were with him at his home in Ely.

There is a fund in his and Nora's remembrance at Widjiwagan, "The Joe and Nora Seliga Canoe Fund" that has been set up for a while to accommodate any donations, in lieu of flowers. Joe will be cremated soon, according to Nancy, and a memorial service is being planned by the family with exact date TBA for early summer.

Joe

He knew most canoes by name, and though a man was he.

Blood brother to paddle and pole he seemed to be.

He lived his life among them, and when spring is in the air.

There will be sorrow on the water for Joe will not be there.

From dawn to dusk he labored on each and every canoe.

And I ‘m sure he lived a richer happier life than me and you.

For his face was calm and placid and he never seemed to care

For the glory in his business or the crown that his skills should wear.
