Intro from Georgia

Hey everyone!

I just signed up here after I decided on a new hobby to pursue.

I try to be as much of an outdoorsman as I can with a corporate job and a family up in North Georgia.

I love to fish and hunt, and have also been doing quite a bit of woodworking over the past several years.

So what could be a better hobby to start than building a canoe to paddle rivers and lakes around the southeast to fish and hunt.

I do have to build my wife a sideboard cabinet, so while I’ll do that I’ll pick up a good Canoe building book and then once that cabinet is done she’ll be stuck parking in the driveway for awhile I build my boat.

I plan on building one then going on an overnight float down one of Georgia’s rivers

Any advice about building a canoe or anything? Can’t wait to get started

Welcome, the bibliography at https://wcha.org/Books.htm lists a number of good books about building canoes and a variety of of other canoe related topics. Your first decision will be the type of construction that you want to use. Good luck,

Wow that’s a lot of resources. I plan on picking up John MacGregor’s book, just because of the shared surname and probably related to him somehow.

But for building specifically, I was looking at buying Canoecraft.

Can’t wait to get started.
