I have recently found a canvas and wood canoe that belonged to my grandfather. Serial number 16491088. The tag on it says Manufactured by White Canoe Company Old Town Maine. It was restored about 35 years ago and has been under cover since. It is in great shape. I would love any information about its age and value.

My guess is that you have a White canoe which is 16 feet long and was made in 1949 with serial number 1088. Your best source for additional information would be the catalog collection at http://store.wcha.org/The-Historic-...pany-Catalog-Collection-Version-2-CD-ROM.html which has a 1948 White catalog and 24 more from 1907 to 1985. There are no known White serial number records but the messages at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?10054 have some more details. The information at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?57 should help you value it and the classifieds at http://wcha.org/pp-classifieds/showcat.php?cat=3 are usually the fastest way to find a good new home for it.
