Curious about Wooden Canoes
Does anyone have building info for the St Louis canoes.I beleave mine is a 16 ft Meramac built around 1915? It has a SN 58211 16 or 58277 16 or just 582 16. The ones and sevens are difficult to tell. It will be ready to varnish inside and outside before I put on any canvas. It was saturated with linseed oil under the old canvas and was wondering what materials should go back oil or varnish. Hey Grover,

I'm sure somebody far more knowledgable than me will shed some light on your canoe. You've come to the right place. I did learn quite a bit about the St. Louis Canoe Co, while restoring my family's boat. From what we learned, the company was founded around 1921 to 1922, so your date may be a bit off. But at least you've got some numbers to work with. Way ahead of me. At least it's very easy to ID the manufacturer, due to the wonderful arrowhead decks!
Good luck on your project, and we all love to see pictures!
