Hello! I am so impressed by the info sharing that I’ve seen on this platform. I just pulled the trigger a bit irrationally on an OT canoe, listed as 15’1” on marketplace (have not taken my own measurement quite yet). Having done minimal research, I decided $150 was worth any canoe in this condition, and I already had a bit of a hunch that it might be from the mid 80s.
Now that I have it and the serial number (which I believe confirms a sept ‘83 production), I am hoping to confirm the material and the model both out of interest and to make sure I am maintaining/repairing it appropriately.
Per my googling, things to note is that the inside surface is smooth not textured, there’s only one chip/scratch deep enough to reveal another color (photo attached), and the decks appear to be original with no handle, just a hole. Also, there is no yoke, only a thwart. I think I am getting stumped by the weight, having not lifted a canoe solo in years has me thinking “no WAY this is the lighter version” but that simply is not a reliable indicator!
Obviously dreaming of some cool answer like a royalex camper/tripper/etc… but mostly excited to have what appears to be a great reliable boat for some adventures! Will follow up with OT if the research stars don’t align here!
