Years ago, we found a wooden thwart on a submerged wooden canoe on Hancock Pond in Denmark, Maine.
It has a "silver" plate on it, stating: HH Hosmer, Norway, Maine
Does anyone have any information about him, was he a canoe builder, what era, etc.
The Hosmer family was an important colonial family in these parts. Abner Hosmer was one of the first casualties of the American Revolution. He died next to Isaac Davis of the Acton Militia at Old North Bridge.
There was a forum member by the name of Blue Viking who is from the Norway/South Paris area. He knew some things about Hosmer the canoe builder. Search the forum for "Blue Viking" or "Hosmer" for some information, or contact Blue Viking directly.
If you look in the green menu bar above, all the way to the right, there's a white box. Just under the box it says "Advanced Search". Click on the white box, then type in 'blue viking", and then press the enter key on your keyboard.
All forums have this feature these days, sometimes it's not as easy to find. It also helps if you know to look for it... and if you're new to forums, you might not know that!
I hope this helps... and by all means, feel free to post more questions as you think of them!
