I’m wondering if anyone can help me with what this canoe is as far as age, value, etc. it looks like it’s an extremely good condition looks rather unused, but the green canvas part does have cracks in it. I don’t know if that is normal or not. it does not leak. I’m getting ready to post it for sale and I just wanna be more well-informed. Thank you in advance.

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town with serial number 131029 is a 17 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, HW model with open spruce gunwales (oval on the outside), ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a keel. It was built between November, 1940 and February, 1941. The original exterior color was bright green. It shipped on March 19th, 1941 to Chicago, Illinois. The back side of the record indicates that it was had moved to Brookfield Illinois by 1986 when there was a previous request for a copy of this information. Scans showing both sides this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join, or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. The cracks are not unusual on an old canvas. The information at the link below has a good summary about how to value a canoe like this and the classifieds at https://www.woodencanoe.org/classifieds have some similar ones for comparison. Good luck with the sale,

Benson
