And I took these photos http://s56.photobucket.com/albums/g188/nameisunavailable/Canoe/
I have two sons that I had wanted to share my experience with canoes as my dad did with me. So here I am, looking through the craiglist ads for a canoe when I happened upon this wood canoe. Now I am all about old school and saw this as art, even though I wasn't looking for a wood canoe, I fell in love with them. I thought all I had to do was to replace the keel and canvas and off we go. Now several of you are smiling at the naivety of that last sentance, I'm certain of that. Been perusing the web trying to educate myself on wood canoes and I understand that this will be more of a herculean effort than a canvas, keel replacement.
There is at least one plank that is cracked along the side. The outwell will need replacing. As you may tell, the planks that the keel were near are rotted. The lady who owns the canoe, removed part of the rotted keel and exposed the hole in the photo. From what I have read about Richardson construction, the planks are tongue and groove, the canvass is glued. She said she is willing to work with me on the price, however, her asking price was $800. I do not want to insult her with what may appear to be a low ball offer. I was thinking around $200-$250. Am I'm off on that price? It is difficult for me know what the value is of this canoe and what to offer her.
