I inherited a canoe and would like to learn more about it!

Hi,

My late husband inherited this White Canoe Company, Old Town Canoe around 1990. At that time he and his grandfather (the original owner) restored the canoe to mint condition. I have no other information about the canoe. I know that since it's been sitting it's sustained some damage and it breaks my heart to see it fall apart. The Canoe is 20 feet long and 3 1/2 feet wide. I'd like some information about it's history, so maybe I can sell it or maybe restore it.

Thank you in advance for any help.

There are no known serial number records available for the White Canoe Company so there isn't much additional information available. The tag indicates that it was probably built after the Second World War. White did use serial numbers briefly from the late 1940s until the early 1960s when Bub King was running the shop. The format was xx-yy-zzzz where xx was the length in feet, yy was the last two digits of the year, and zzzz was the sequential serial number. The information at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?791 may help you locate these numbers and the suggestions at http://forums.wcha.org/showthread.php?57 may help if you decide to sell it. Please mention the WCHA to the buyer. Good luck,

Benson

Benson,

Thank you again for your help. I did find the serial numbers 20-55-2490. Now I know it's not as old as I thought. Oh well now I know more about it.

Thanks
