Hi, prospective serial #

I'm interested in a canoe , but some red flags are appearing on this 16' Old Town Guide. I was able to get the serial # 281859 Thank you as always, Trapper.

Hi Trapper--

My Old Town records don't go that high-- they end in about 1970. You may have to contact Old Town directly. What concerns you regarding this canoe?

Sadly now the canoe was glassed from Old Town, but to make it worse, owner has polyurethaned over the exterior for whatever reasons I'm not sure. It's supposed to be an Old town Guide 16, but from the pic's after the serial # I would swear it is a 15 not 16. The clues just not adding up for me. thanks as always, Trapper.
