Help with records, Old Town Canoe, SN: 171327

After many years seeking an authentic wooden canvas Canoe, and after serving as a guide in Minnesota in Montana, I finally found one! It’s a wonderful barn find in great condition. I’m hoping someone here can direct me to more information about serial number 171327. Thanks in advance!

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 171327 is an 18 foot long Guide model with a keel. It was built between August and October, 1961. The original exterior paint color was red. It shipped on February 2nd, 1962 to Watchung, New Jersey. The back side of the card indicates that it had moved to Lakeside, Montana by November 18th, 1980 when there was a pervious request for a copy of this information. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
