Help me ID my canoe

Welcome, the Old Town canoe with serial number 146972 is a 16 foot long, CS (common sense or middle) grade, Otca model with spruce planking, open spruce gunwales, cane seats, a keel, outside stems, and a floor rack. It was built between November, 1946 and January, 1947. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on January 16th, 1947 to Binghamton, New York. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Wow! That's awesome that you can access that information. Thank you so much for sharing it with me. The canoe has definitely been modified since it was manufactured. The good news is that the main structure is in perfect shape. I think I'm going to take a stab at restoring it back to its original condition. I checked out the address of where it was originally shipped. Interestingly, it's right beside the river but it's a parking garage now. I think it might've been a retailer back in the day.
