Grit in paint

Thank you for clarifying that. I think we are finally closing in on this.
Yeah....Home Hardware is a Canadian company without a presence here in the US. At one point I considered crossing over in Cornwall to stop in to the one there but then I was not sure if it was worth the trip. Without knowing how good the paint was, it seemed like a good deal of back and forth with no guarantees. I probably should have done that. The recipe you used has been around for quite a few years so I am sure it must be pretty decent or people would not use it.
Whatever the case, if you live in Canada, Home Hardware is your go to paint and if you are anywhere else, we get pretty close with Epifanes.
Kirby, even though they custom mix, does not offer a Chestnut color as such. They store their recipes under the customer's name, so if they have ever supplied a good approximation, unless someone comes forward about it, no one else can order it. You could opt to try and create your own blend.

And we would love to see pics of it in the water also.

I do have a question about the paint, why a 1 gal size? Are planning more canoes (you should)?
Using Interlux, I usually use about 1 1/2 qts on a canoe. (this would be 3-4 sanded coats)

Dan,
I have full intention to show a few pictures of her on the water. I have taken quite a number of pictures all along the way of the project. I think I’ll start another thread and show a few of those as well
I bought the gallon size originally because I didn’t know how much I might use and I figured it wouldn’t hurt to have extra. I have for coats on it now and was intending a 5th this evening after a light sanding with 320. Maybe I’m overdoing it?‍
I do plan to do another restoration. I look at Facebook marketplace every day for a worthy subject. I’d learned a lot along the way about canoe restoration, woodworking and myself. The next one will hopefully be smoother and faster.

When I paint (or varnish) I usually stop when I get sick of painting, knowing that it won't be perfect (also note, I don't get carried away with the paint, as I consider it a mainanence item and replaceable when new canvas goes on.)

After having number go through my doors, an adage from old cars is just as pertanent with canoes, buy the best condition you can find and you will be better off.

And now is a great time to get another project as IMO, nothing is selling fast these days.
