Grand Laker restoration

Hello
I am working on a Grand Laker and I have a few questions on stripping the inside. I have already stripped the inside with a stripper that I purchaced at Lowes. It seemed that it was ready to sand, but when I sand the paper gets gunked easily. I think it is the stripper that soaked into the wood. I have washed the interior well. There are these little patches of weird stuff that get gunky only while the sander is on it.

Will stain adhere if there is a little stripper still in the wood?
Should I use a dye stain to have everything come out even?

I will try to put up some photos of what the gunky spots look like tomorrow.

Thanks
Dan

A little more stripper

I think you could probably treat the spots with a bit more stripper and use a soft nylon bristle brush - like a dishwashing brush to remove the residue. Just make sure you aren't scratching the planking.

What Fred just said too!

Once you get it clean and ready for varnish, apply a coat of dewaxed shellac as a sealer. It will give the varnish a good base to adhere to regardless of any unintentional traces of cleaner, stripper, or old finish left in the wood.
