First project but no idea what the boat is

The existing full length keel and 2 shorter outer keels are also rotten and will need to be replaced. There is some kind of fibreglass protective strip that has been attached at each end of each keel, but it is loose along the length of each keel. I assume this is for abrasion protection? I only have this strip for the full length central keel but there is evidence of similar strips being used to cover the shorter outer keels as well.

Please can anyone explain how small wooden keel strips would be protected against abrasion, or are they designed to be sacrificial?

I have ash or beech to use to remake these.
