Ebay Canoe - interesting

There is a newer listing on Ebay for an "antique canoe 15" out on the Cape that is showing a very interesting wreck. I have never seen those seat frame details before on a production canoe. I think that it has been glassed over so it is possible that what you can see of the gunwales is not original. Does anyone have any thoughts about this one? I think that it is a backyard special - but looking at the tapered ribs and what appears to be a pretty good plankin' job the builder knew what he/she was doing.

Any thoughts?

Unusual collection of characteristics.

tapered ribs except for the cant ribs. Thin inwale like on some small boats and all wood canoes. Thwart support just like a Canadian all wood. Seat frames are different, but method of supports very Canadian and small boat.

I did notice a large number of tacks at the bow or stern which could mean to plank joints on the same rib, usually not done by a pro.

This could be a home build by a builder employee, or a canoe from a boat builder.

Just a few thoughts,

Paul
