Deglossing Paint

Happy New Year, all!
Had a thought that I wanted to throw out.
Has anyone ever used a liquid deglosser on a painted hull between coats or prior to the last coat of paint?
Thoughts?

Most of them tend to be pretty similar water-based liquids that you wipe on with a rag. It seems that their major purpose is for applying new paint to old paint - attacking the old gloss surface enough to give it some tooth for the new paint to bond to. Some have warnings in the instructions similar to this one which say not to use it on newly finished surfaces. That would probably mean that it will be too destructive for use between multiple coats of new paint. It's probably worth trying on scrap before applying any to a boat.

Thanks Todd. Wasn’t aware it was not recommended for fresh paint.

I’m painting a canoe with lightly pigmented paint. Every time I sand it the filler shows through. Got 5 coats on and don’t want to remove any more paint by sanding. I was looking for a way to get around sanding.
Guess I’ll use a scotchbrite and avoid the show through areas.
