Chestnut canoe books: Solway vs MacGregor?

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hi all,

I just bought a used copy of Ken Solway's Book - The Story of the Chestnut Canoe : 150 Years of Canadian Canoe Building. (1997)

I see that another book on Chestnuts was published by Roger MacGregor a couple of years later in 1999.
- When the Chestnut was in Flower. Inside the Chestnut Canoe.

In your opinion, do you think it's worthwhile for me to get a copy of the MacGregor book?

How are they different from one another?

Thanks very much.

I'd suggest that the MacGregor book is a better read. It's more anecdotal and perhaps romanticised but it talks of the characters involved in the story. The Solway book is more matter-of-fact and concise.

Thanks, guys.
Sounds like I should try to find one. Does anyone know where I could get a reasonably priced copy? (Used is fine)
Thanks. Sean.

Roger's book has been out of print for some time now. I use addall.com's used book search (it aggregates many online booksellers). Right now it is showing 12 copies ranging in price from $134.96 USD to 1042.72 USD. I guess it's up to you to determine what is a reasonable price :).

Set up a standing search on eBay and you may come across a copy.

It's a shame it's not readily available as it is a rather good book. I know Roger gifted much of his intellectual property to the Canadian Canoe Museum, but I don't know if rights to the book were included.

Thanks, Dan.
Unfortunately, those online sources want more than I'm willing to spend.
I will keep an eye out in my local used book stores; (Toronto, ON) or who knows, maybe a (legitimate) forum member will have one for sale in the future.
Thanks again.
Sean.
