Canoe UFO

I got a call that their old fiberglass canoe was leaking. Could I put a patch on a small hole. I asked her to send me a photo. I was very surprised. Anybody have an idea what this is? I did google Radisson canoes, Interesting. OK I did a deeper dive into it. I thought I'd seen them all. I guess after 25 years of doing this I'd have seen at least one.

Wonderful boats. Direct birchbark lineage. Had an acquaintance lose one off a roof rack on the highway, did a few flips and never got hit by a car or truck. Put in back on, carried on to campsite and never leaked a drop. Try that with a Morris.

My understanding is that Radisson canoes are made from aluminum so repairing it with fiberglass may not be a great long term solution. Good luck,

One of my duck hunting buddies told me he is into canoes. He showed up at one of our floodwood hunts with two of these. We filled them with gear/decoys etc. and proceeded drag them about two miles down the middle of a dirt road to a spot where we could put them into a ditch. We then dragged them into the floodwood to set up and hunt. When we were done, we dragged them back to our trucks. I no longer think he is into canoes.
These things have a cult following. They are the Stowes of the aluminum canoe world. Dreadful.

There are actually two brands building the same basic canoes - Radisson and Sportspal, or one manufacturer building two brands. The construction - gored sides, ethafoam-lined with little ribs inside is so bizarre that I can't believe there is more than one company building them. Weight is in the 30s and with the foam lining they are unsinkable, but damn they are ugly.
