Canoe ID assistance, please

Hi,

I have relatively limited information about this canoe. It was purchased secondhand 60 years ago in Southeastern WI and is thought to originate from this general area as well. It is 17'. No maker ID, serial number noticeable. I'm hoping the geographical information, the unique seats/thwarts
, and the expertise of this site will generate some ideas.

Thanks,

Joe

Hi Joe
Looks Canadian to me. The seats look like “aftermarket” seats.
On a guess, I’d say Peterborough “low end” Champlain.
I’ve seen soooo many times where the oral history is incorrect, however it could have been built in Wisconsin I suppose.

Not a Champlain, stem profile and build is wrong. maybe much modified with solid seats and unusual thwarts. If i had to guess i would say someone made a form with a maine style tripping canoe and pulled a few boats from it. Kinda looks like at Atkinson Traveller, fwiw.
