Canoe I.D.

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Does anyone recognize this label or I.D. number? I'd love to know what it is that I'm restoring! Thanks, Hal J

I make the decal out to be from the Robertson-Old Town Canoe Company. It would date to 1902.

I expect Benson will be along shortly to confirm.

I keep staring at the decal image, and while the first part of the name "Robertson" is pretty clear, I am having trouble turning the part after into "Old Town."

The decal style is the same as that Old Town used before 1905.

Interesting!

I can't confirm much because I haven't seen one before but it certainly looks like a Robertson and Old Town tag as Dan suggested. What more can you tell us about it? Where was it found? Please share some more pictures. Thanks,

Benson

Benson,
It's been living in Grand Lake, Colorado. The owners contracted with me to restore her. Other than the seats, canvas, and gunwale damage, she's in really good shape. Here are a few more pics. Hal

Fortunately whoever did the previous restoration made an attempt to preserve the label....
It would be very helpful if you could take one (or more) pictures of the label. If possible try to "square up" the label in the photo. That may make it somewhat easier to see what the second name in the top line is. I do not think that it is Old Town. It looks like the first character is the letter W.
What is clearly legible are Robertson on the first line, Old Town on the next line and USA at the bottom.
That's pretty interesting
I'm hoping that the finish is spar varnish, not urethane....urethane is a pita to deal with.
