Black Pearl a Cabon/Kevlar build

I want to share a link to my Black Pearl build, over at Canoe tripping . net.

It is a Carbon/Kevlar build with a Cedar strip insert in the bottom.

I'm happy with the weigh of this 16' solo, just shy of 36#. It is a copy of my original Pearl.

I read the entire link and once again am impressed with the expertise and work required for fiberglass/ epoxy/ carbon/ Kevlar/ etc. coverings. By comparison applying canvas is a breeze.

I believe Canvasing a canoe requires at least as much skill, if not more !
There are certainly others more skilled than I, in the epoxying a canoe !

1/2" Nylon Snow shoe cord. I've used it for years. Bought a roll from these guys. It's incredibly durable !

A tip ! Lace it loosely, as the varnish seems to shrink it quite a bit ! Taking the comfort out !

DONE !

After applying Spar Urethane to the hull, and Watco to the trim, She weighs in at 36 1/2 #
I can handle that on the portages.
Just a quick break down on some weights.
The hull came off the Male mold at 22 #, including the Cedar insert, and glass.
The trim, flotation chambers and varnish, added 16 1/2 #.
