Jim Clearwater and I have been trading messages about an 11-foot long Old Town Fifty Pound model and I thought that my story of one might be worth sharing here. Most short canoes tend to be very tippy so Old Town's solution with their 11-foot long Fifty Pound model was to make it 36 inches wide. This makes it look very bulbous and ugly to some people and cute to others. My wife is in the latter category. I decided that she should have one after learning this. It took a while but I eventually found one in rough but restorable condition. The next challenge was how to hide an 11 foot long Christmas gift for a few months. I went with the 'hiding in plain sight' solution and simply tucked it in among some other canoes on the garage ceiling over my car. She never noticed it. Our children did but they were happy to help keep the secret. We all carried it into the living room on Christmas morning. She decided that it should be known as 'The Cutie.' The pictures below show it on the way to the 2016 Assembly and on the green there.
