I was gifted this enormous Old Town double ender this past week from an old dude I help out, he was gifted it after his buddy passed away years ago. I'd like to know more history about it if possible. Serial number 197916

Welcome and congratulations, the Old Town canoe with serial number 197916 is a 17 foot long fiberglass Carleton model that weighed 83 pounds. It was built between October and November, 1973. The original exterior gelcoat color was dark green on the hull. It shipped on May 3rd, 1974 to Ellsworth, Maine. The back side of the card indicates that it was pulled from the mold before the canoe has setup so they had to patch two streaks on the stern end of the hull's left side. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/pricing-plans/join to donate or renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
