I was recently gifted, what I just learned from Benson Grey, is a 1972 OT Guide with "rub rails."

My questions is: what are rub rails?

The pictures at http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?attachments/15153/ and http://www.wcha.org/forums/index.php?attachments/5305/ show a Molitor model with rub rails which are very similar to the ones that would have originally been on your canoe. Let me know if this doesn't answer your question,

It does. Because my canoe had a two tone paint scheme, the rub rail separated the two colors. Cool.
