Last fall, I spotted a wood and canvas canoe in a local auction. I've loved wood and canvas canoes for more than 40 years, dating back to the summers I spent working at camps in Northern Wisconsin. I went and looked at it, and it's in incredible condition. I decided to get it even though I have no room for it.
As far as I can tell, it's a 1910ish 16 ft. Hudson River model, One seat has a wonky repair, but it is otherwise phenomenal. There are no cracks or flaws in the canvas.
I'm looking for opinions on this, and more information if anyone has any. I know the company was only around for a decade, and these canoes are reputed to be some of the finest produced, in spite of them being only a sideline to the company's primary focus of motorized boats.
I am interested in selling it, but it would need to be picked up (Southcentral Wisconsin.) I need to know more, and to make sure I have correctly identified what this is before I list it anywhere.
