18ft Old Town #131957 history, thanks

The Old Town canoe with serial number 131957 is an 18 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, HW (heavy water) model with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel, and sponsons. It was built between March and June, 1941. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July, 1st, 1941 to Bangor, Maine. The back side of this record shows that it came back for repairs in 1943 and 1945. It was repaired and repainted G. S. (Guide's Special) gray in 1945. Scans showing both sides of this build record can be found below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

Benson

The sad part is the sponsons were missing when I acquired the canoe. The guy I purchased it from had no idea where they could be since when he got it at a garage sale they were gone . I have a 1967 Old Town 18ft with sponsons I am restoring at this time. Any idea of the best way to trace the stations on these to make new sponsons for this canoe?
