Linda, Dan: The build record for the Old Town canoe with serial number 76918 shows an 18 foot long, GS grade, Guide Special model with Western Cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, birch decks and a keel. It was built in 1923. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on April 13, 1923 to W.F. Caswell of Harrison, Maine. A note on a card scanned below the build record references copper air tanks were included. A scan of this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.
This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Thanks Al! It might be that the record is on top of another record as the bottom one says dark red.
Right now the canoe is red both outside and in, but it has the original canvas and the original paint was dark green.
