Old Town War Canoe

The Old Town canoe with serial number 102000 is a 25 foot long War Canoe model with red Western cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, a keel, outside stems, and a floor rack. It was built between June and July, 1929. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on July 3rd, 1929 to Tuxedo, New York. It was damaged in transit and returned to the factory on September 3rd, 1929. There were hook holes in the stern. The repairs were documented on the back side of the card and on both sides of the record for 102017. Both canoes were then resold to Dry Mills, Maine on June 18th, 1930. Scans of both sides of these two build records can be found by following the links behind the thumbnail images attached below.

These scans and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. Additional information about the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.html to renew.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
