18' Old Town Guide Serial Number 135628 information please

Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello,

Looking for the build record on 18' OT Guide 135628.

Also, looking for any pictures and/or information members may have on how the deck meets the stems on this model.

The person who started this restoration on this beauty cut the old decks out with a saws-all and I'm clueless at the moment as to shape of the stem for replacement by scarfing new tips onto each stem. I do have the original decks, but the tips are rotted away. Looking for details on how the stem joins each deck (butt fit, inset, etc.?)

Thanks

Tim

Tim: The Old Town canoe with serial number 135628 comes back to an 18 foot long, AA grade OTCA model with a keel and a floor rack. It was built between June and August, 1942. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on April 13, 1943 to Minneapolis, Minn. A scan showing this build record can be found by following the link at the attached thumbnail image below.

This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/ot_records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/wcha/ to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/join.php to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match your canoe. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

It appears Dan has you covered as far as the deck/stem question is concerned.

18' OT Otca

Al— Surprised and delighted to see the canoe is an Otca. How to I go about requesting a copy of the built record- through the WCHA or directly from Old Town? Please advise, and if you have a contact name and email it will speed up my request. Thanks

All you have to do is Print it. What a great Service!

Tim:

Just click on the thumbnail image that Al posted for you. It will produce the Build Record for your canoe, and you can print the Build Record at home.

Of course you can still send money to Old Town for the same thing or become a member of this wonderful organization and reap even more benefits!

Cheers!

Tim,

Here is a higher resolution and resized copy of the record - if you need it any better, send me an e-mail and I'll send you a .tif.

Hi Tim,

That looks like a nice canoe.

Yes, we will be home this weekend. Just give us a call.
I'll show you my new toy. :)
