We have an 18' Old Town that my late father bought in Wisconsin in 1990 from the son of the original purchaser. We think it's quite old but would like to know more. Serial # is115694.
thank you!

The Old Town canoe with serial number 115964 is an 18 foot long, AA (or top) grade, Guide model with red Western cedar planking, open mahogany gunwales, half ribs, a keel, floor rack, sponsons, and a bang plate along the full length of the keel. It was built between May and June, 1935. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on June, 15th, 1935 to Menomonie, Wisconsin. There was a previous request for a copy of this information on July 2nd, 1979 as indicated on the back side of this record. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See http://www.wcha.org/about-wcha to learn more about the WCHA and http://www.wcha.org/store/membership to join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer this description doesn't match the canoe. Feel free to reply if you have any other questions.

Benson

Wow - thank you for the incredibly quick response! The previous inquiry was sent by by late father - clearly he purchased the canoe earlier than we thought. One of my sons is restoring the canoe and plans to join the WCHA. Again, many thanks. Marcia Bjornerud
