Wooden Canoes are in the Blood
I've just completed this 1944 OldTown Double-Ender rowing canoe - aka PeaPod. It's mostly original - I just made the cherry-wood decks the the two removable seat backs, along with the new canvas of course.

With the seat backs, it's almost like an Adirondack guide boat!
Yeah, thanks. Apparently the original seat backs were taller, but I'm thinking shorter ones would hit the back better. Besides, the shorter design let me get both seat backs from fewer rib stock.

I should add that Mike spang for brass oar locks - a huge improvement over the discolored originals that appeared to be made with pot metal. And I replaced the original steel stembands with brass ones that look great with the varnished external stems.

I am helping a friend restore her fiberglass dinghy, which had beautiful bronze oarlock sockets that had years of patina on them.
But the new bronze oarlocks we bought to go with the sockets were a glossy gold color. Trying a recipe from the internet, we used salt and vinegar to darken them. They didn't get as dark as the sockets, but better than they were.
