A PHOTOGRAPHER'S CANOE: This 18-foot long Otca model Old Town canoe began life with the red, white, and blue design known as number four but returned to the factory to be repainted in this unusual combination (red on one side and yellow on the other), which enabled the color of the canoe to be easily changed to suit the picture being taken by simply turning it around. GET THEM STARTED YOUNG: WCHA member Gene Burreson built this Ian Oughtred-designed Wee Rob so his grandchildren could paddle the salt marsh creeks of the Chesapeake Bay in Virginia. Here 10-year-old grandson Michael is enjoying a paddle on a brisk fall day after the marsh grasses have turned brown. The 12 foot Wee Rob is constructed of glued marine plywood with cherry trim. A long decked Gerrish: When member Mike Cyr found this unusual Gerrish it was in very rough shape. He said "The paint was a nightmare...red oil paint that had penetrated every surface was covered by grey porch paint. It had also been fiberglassed. But, there were details throughout that suggested that a very skilled hand had built it." Rollin and Elisa at Northwoods Canoe restored it and Mike says "I think it looks pretty darned good for a boat that is over 120 years old...it's ready to go another 120 years." #wcha #wchaorg #canoe #woodencanoeheritageassociation #woodencanoe #gerrishcanoe #northwoodscanoe
