15 50 search

Well, the Old Town canoe with serial number 32888 is a 17 foot long Ideal model so that isn't a good match. Number 132888 is a 12 foot long Sportboat model so that is no better. Can you supply some pictures of the numbers from both ends and confirm the overall extreme length? The suggestions at the link below may help if the numbers are hard to read. Thanks,

Benson

Benson, my error. I can confirm 15 length. Using graphite rub I get 32838 15. It was retrieved from northern Minnesota. It was worked on once and glassed-over pre-epoxy. Bow stem rotted-out, base of stern stem with serial number barely hanging on. A 15 50 confirmation will help me research original specs/measurements for restoration. Thanks, I appreciate your help. The Old Town with serial number 32828 is 18 feet long so that isn't a good match. My guess is that you may have number 132828. This is a 15 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, fifty pound model with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, and a keel. It was built between June and August, 1941. The original exterior paint color was dark green. It shipped on August 27th, 1941 to Duluth, Minnesota. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/join to join or renew.

It is also possible that this canoe could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.
