The Old Town canoe with serial number 142088 is a 16 foot long, CS (Common Sense or middle) grade, Yankee model with western red cedar planking, open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel, and outside stems. It was built between May and June, 1945. The original exterior paint color was fire red with a guide's special green bottom. It was shipped on July 7th, 1945 to Lakeport, New Hampshire. This scan and several hundred thousand others were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others. Surprising that this canoe was two colors and CS grade. Currently it is all DK Green and has mahogany rails with the screws bunged. The interior is like new and just needs to be recanvassed. The owner thought it was a 1941.
It currently lives on Bear Island, Lake Winnipesaukee and would indeed have been delivered to Lakeport (by train).

If you have verified the serial numbers on both ends then the rails are probably replacements. This is not an era when the screws would have been bunged at the factory.
