126421?

The Old Town canoe with serial number 126421 is a 16 foot long Yankee model in CS (Common Sense or the middle) grade with open spruce gunwales, ash decks, ash thwarts, ash seats, a keel, and bilge keels. It was built between January and April, 1939. The original exterior paint color was Nile(?) green. It was shipped on May 2nd, 1939 to Lansing, Michigan. A scan showing this build record can be found below.

This scan and several hundred thousand more were created with substantial grants from the Wooden Canoe Heritage Association (WCHA) and others as you probably know well. A description of the project to preserve these records is available at http://www.wcha.org/catalogs/old-town/records/ if you want more details. I hope that you will donate, join or renew your membership to the WCHA so that services like this can continue. See https://www.woodencanoe.org/about to learn more about the WCHA and https://www.woodencanoe.org/shop to donate or join.

It is also possible that you could have another number or manufacturer if this description doesn't match. Feel free to reply here if you have any other questions.

The livery model was introduced in 1913. Dan's site at the first link below has a good summary saying "Yankee Model (1920-1956): Originally called the Livery Model, the Yankee name was adopted in 1920. In 1957 the Yankee became the 16′ Otca and the original 16′ Otca forms retired." This model is still being sold today as the 16 foot long Otca as shown in the second link below.
