Curious about Wooden Canoes
Hello All,
Been using the forum to get through my first Wood&Canvas Canoe repair on a 1915 Old Town OTCA 17’. I’m happy to report I’m finished and it turned out very well.
Many thanks to the collective for building this great body of knowledge. I’ve registered so I can do a whole write-up with pictures and make my contribution to the body of knowledge. Here’s a shot of the finished boat.

Hi Dave,
Wooden boats are very interesting, in that they look so simple yet are incredibly complex. Much like nature itself. No straight lines, for the most part, just curves and shapes that flow together to create the whole.
Will I do this again? Possibly. I have many other things I would like to do in my journey as a small boat builder.

I’ve replaced all the wood on my Hornbeck with fresh Cherry.

And I’m in the process of finishing my Rushton Princess DIANA inspired decked sailing canoe.

I kept my forms to make a similar open canoe next year.

Good to have goals.
Ethan
