"Parks and Recreation" Canoe

Wooden Canoes are in the Blood
In Memoriam
Here is a fun interview with one of the stars of the show, "Parks and Recreation". I have seen him building canoes as a character on the show, but apparently it is a real life passion.

The Letterman interview was just a couple of nights ago, and then the new Fine Woodworking arrived yesterday by mail with Nick O. is on the cover. The article he wrote on flattening large slabs is very good.

Nick Offerman was featured as the builder on a film done by Bear Mountain Canoes, entitled Fine Woodstrip Canoe Building….I believe this was Nick's first canoe build....here is how http://bearmountainboats.com/canoe_club.htm describes this video:

Last fall actor and woodworker Nick Offerman found himself with some time to kill in New York City while his wife is working on Broadway, so he decided to build a couple of canoes.

After reading Canoecraft, Nick called up to purchase some plans and before he knew it Joan had enlisted his help to produce a canoe building video as a companion to Canoecraft.

Nick (www.offermanwoodshop.com) rounded up his buddy Jimmy Diresta (www.jimmydiresta.com) and drove to Peterborough to pick up the building materials and work out the details. We feel honored to have two such talented versatile artists working with Bear Mountain.

Nick has kept a journal while he works which we are posting here for your enjoyment….. download the complete Canoe Club journal, http://bearmountainboats.com/canoeclub/canoeclub_complete.pdf (pdf file, 12.6 meg).
