Wooden Canoes are in the Blood
Anybody ever handled one wooden canoes made by OldTown that had fiberglass on tge sides? Im getting one as a freebe and was thinking of stripping off the fiberglass and covering it with Dacron. But someone mentioned the wood used on these canoes was thinner than used on w/c canoes. Thoughts?

The thickness of the planking depends on the model. The Trapper models had thinner planking to save weight. The other models (Guide, Otca, Molitor, etc.) had thicker planking. All of these were available with fiberglass covering instead of canvas at various times. What is the model and year (or serial number) of the canoe you are considering?

Hi Benson. It's the same canoe I wrote about the other day. Serial 314544-15. It also has a black tag that reads XTC14644A989.
