I agree with Andre and will add that a soft lead pencil and some cigar ask in the tack crimp holes will due wonders, and some inventive and judicious " distressing " is a good thing. Check out the " little dab will do ya " mix of grumbachers burnt sienna pigment with some lighter ash
for an aged cedar sap ( in flat sawn stock ) spot and rubbed in as you see fit. Good fun before the Jameson. What a boat

Yes Dave. I use artist acrylics in the tack holes and dyes and acrylic washes to add aged effect. I like your pencil idea though!
